Pastorgraphs: “The Character of Leadership”

In yesterday’s Integrity Academy session on Character, another connection reinforcing The ABC Model emerged. Since this “connect the dots” scenario is not in the book, I will share it here.

While researching for my book, I compiled a list of a dozen of the most common character traits of successful leaders. These traits were the most common character traits in several surveys by leading business journals.

Most Common Character Traits of Successful Leaders

Fairness

Humility, selflessness

Wisdom

Personal strength

Self-discipline

Truthfulness

Loyalty

Passion, inspiration

Optimism

Compassion

Vision

Competence

I doubt many would argue that these are character traits we would want in our boss, our leaders, and that these are the traits we desire for ourselves.

While developing material for the Integrity Academy, it dawned upon me those character traits map perfectly to the Core Virtues we covered in the second session. I’ve highlighted the virtues (in red) that match the character traits of successful leaders.

This shows a connection between living a virtuous life of integrity and building character traits for successful leadership.

Our fourth and final session of Integrity Academy will be this Sunday 9:00-9:45 at Christ Church. If you missed a session and would like to make it up, or would like to participate in all four sessions in our first “Half-Day” Integrity Seminar scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 9:00-11:30 AM Pacific Time, please let me know. For those outside the San Diego area, the Half-Day Integrity Seminar will be available live via GoToWebinar.

The schedule for the Half-Day Integrity Seminar (Saturday March 2) is:

• Session One: Ethics                 9:00-9:40 AM (Pacific Time)
• Session Two: Virtues                9:40-10:20 AM
• Break                                     10:20-10:30 AM
• Session Three: Character          10:30-11:10 AM
• Session Four: Integrity             11:10-11:50 AM

Those who attend all four session are eligible to take the optional Certificate Exam.
