NAE Update - September 2014

September 2014

What Makes a Church Grow
The NAE asked its Board of Directors, which includes denominational executives, pastors and other evangelical leaders, for the main characteristics they notice in growing churches. Find out what they said in the June Evangelical Leaders Survey. (read more)

Pray for Iraq
The escalating crisis in northern Iraq by the Islamic State poses a serious genocidal threat to religious minorities in northern Iraq. Christians in Iraq have fled by the thousands. The NAE urges evangelicals everywhere to Pray for Iraq.  NAE President Leith Anderson joined with other religious leaders in a letter to President Obama urging him to continue and strengthen actions that protect religious minorities in the region.

World Food Day
World Food Day is observed in more than 150 countries each year on October 16. The NAE has materials, including bulletin inserts, a discussion guide, a placemat, a Sunday School lesson and videos, available for free download at www.nae.net/worldfoodday. Physical copies of the discussion guide and placement are also available via our online shopping cart.  Consider how you, your church or your small group might participate this year, and let us know what your plans are!

More Cases on the Contraception Mandate
The NAE filed amici briefs in two additional cases on the contraception mandate last month. Geneva College,  a Christian college founded in the Reformed Presbyterian tradition, and several Catholic dioceses and groups in Pennsylvania appealed to the Third Circuit that they not be required to cover contraception and drugs they believe may cause abortions in their employee insurance plans. Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) has received emergency relief from the Eleventh Circuit, but is continuing its suit to receive permanent exemption from the Health and Human Services mandate.
