St. Patrick's has new pastors - GRATEFUL AND EXCITED
Sunday, July 1, 2018 — Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary
Time
GRATEFUL AND EXCITED
Fr. Philip and I both began our
ordained ministry as deacons here at Saint Patrick Parish. Fr. Philip was
ordained to the presbyterate just a week ago, and I was ordained two years ago.
We both promised at our respective priesthood ordinations to celebrate the
saving mysteries of Christ, to preach the Gospel, and to unite ourselves daily
to Christ, the High Priest.
As it was announced at the Masses
last weekend, and in this bulletin, we will continue to serve you, but now in
different capacities: I will be serving as Administrator of the Parish and Fr.
Philip as Associate Pastor. We’re both grateful and excited. Please continue to
pray for us, that we may have God’s wisdom!
Pastor and Administrator... what is
the difference? Both offices have the same scope of authority in the leadership
of the Parish, but the office of Pastor has certain rights, which the office of
Administrator does not. For example, the Bishop may remove an Administrator for
no reason, whereas in order to remove a Pastor, there is due process that needs
to be followed.
I am becoming Administrator rather
than Pastor because, customarily, someone who has never been Pastor before
begins as Administrator.
I have already spoken with a few of
you regarding your ideas as to how to become more of who we are called to be as
a Catholic Parish Community. I look forward to having more of these conversations.
In Christ, Fr.
Carlos, O.S.A.
