Meet world-class operatic tenor Rodrick Dixon
Profile: Rod Dixon
Operatic tenor Rod Dixon was born to sing. He describes his mother as a "fantastic" singer. His father, a Baptist minister, was a classically trained pianist and taught Gospel music. Though probably best known for his performance in the PBS special "Three Mo' Tenors," Dixon has also appeared on stage and in concert in a variety of dramatic roles, and his repertoire runs the gamut from classical, jazz and Gospel, to opera, the musical theater and television. While talent, training and technique are important aspects of his profession, Dixon says that it is his spiritual beliefs that infuse every aspect of his career.
Judy Valente talks with Dixon about his quest to embrace the spiritual experience and bring the presence of God to audiences through the beauty of music. "When I'm singing, I'm trying to evolve as a human being and get into the divine in the moment as a singer," Dixon explains. "So for me, I'm looking for unknown in the performance and only God can give me that."
