A Lutheran in the Holy Land
A life full of tension - that’s how Wolfgang Schmidt, the Provost in
Jerusalem, describes his ministry in the Holy Land. The Lutheran pastor
says it’s incredibly invigorating, but also exhausting. The ever-present
risk is burn-out. Schmidt is not only responsible for the Church of the
Redeemer in the Old City of Jerusalem, he also oversees the Talitha
Kumi Educational Center on the West Bank and the Augusta Victoria
Hospital for Palestinians in East Jerusalem. Lutherans have played an
important role in the Holy Land - even in the founding of Tel Aviv.
