Holy Week During a Pandemic
Holy Week
During a Pandemic
This
Sunday we celebrate the Passion of the Lord, thus beginning Holy Week. Under
the circumstances, it will be most unusual. We have the Blessed Sacrament
exposed in the parking lot today and on the following Sundays, and on Easter
Sunday, we will also drive to anyone who emails me requesting a home
benediction, as long as it is feasible to do so.
Also,
we will continue uploading Masses
on YouTube, and I’m looking for a way to stream live, at least for the
Holy Triduum. Please check the website for
times. No one knows when we will be able to resume having public Masses, but
perhaps a date to pray for would be Pentecost. (Sunday, May 31, 2020)
Thank
you to everyone who has been concerned about me. I appreciate very much the
calls and e-mails I have received. Our mutual care and concern for one another
reveals the love of God amidst the uncertainty of our times and the fragility
of health. We are in this boat together, as the Pope reminded us last Friday.
Let
us remember as we enter this Holy Week, that Christ is with us now in this time
of trial. Let us root our hearts in the hope that we have because Christ
suffered and died for us, but ultimately conquered death on the third day. Let
us continue to pray for an end to the pandemic, and to nourish our souls at
home by singing hymns, reading scripture of spiritual books, or watching
nourishing content on video. In whatever way works best for us, may we use this
time to draw closer to one another in our love for God, and rediscover the
things that truly matter in our lives, so we can celebrate the victory of
Christ over sin next Sunday.
God bless you and keep you safe,
Fr. Carlos, OSA
