"FOLLOW ME
AND I WILL MAKE YOU FISHERS OF MEN."
In the Gospel (Mt 4, 12-23) Jesus continues with the
invitation the people to conversion. This was the invitation that John
the Baptist made to those who heard him. Everything seems to
indicate that there is an urgency in raising awareness of the need to
change our selfish attitudes for the desire to live for God. We
could call this life change: having an encounter with God.
This encounter with God makes a person want to live a
righteous life. It also creates an opportunity to share the Gospel with others.
In the Gospel, Jesus wants to be known so that those that know him can
share their testimony with others: "Follow me and I will
make you fishers of men." This invitation from Jesus is not limited
to a few, but it is open to all disciples. The more people that believe
in the Son of God and his mission, the more they will contribute to
building up the Kingdom of God.
Following Jesus requires determination and freedom. It
means overcoming great challenges and being detached from worldly
possessions in order to serve Jesus better.
