HIS SPIRIT WAS GIVEN TO
US
Pentecost
has finally arrived. This is time that the promise of Jesus Christ to
his disciples is fulfilled. Without the fulfillment of this promise, the
disciples would not act, they waited for the moment in which God would
act on the promise. Now, the hour of the Spirit of God has come.
The first reading of today Sunday, which corresponds to the book of the Acts of the Apostles, shows us the disciples united in prayer, after which the Spirit of God is given to them.
Following the
example of the first Church, it seems that there are three things that
we disciples must keep in mind today so that the presence of the
Spirit of God is always manifested in our midst. The first is to act
with patience, to wait for God to act when He wants, so we do not
try to force God. The second thing to keep in mind is: while we are patient,
we must pray. That's right, we must ask God for the gift of the Holy
Spirit. And the third will be: unity, acting together with the Church,
and with the will of the Church.
On this
Pentecost Sunday, let us meditate on these three aspects that can help
us in our spiritual journey, and thus be able to live an authentic
experience of the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit, as a spiritual
teacher, will teach us everything, as Christ himself told us (Jn
14: 26), and will confirm that He is with us through his gifts
and fruits. In the company of the Spirit of God we will be able to
announce the Gospel to everyone everywhere, since we have been entrusted
with the mission of continuing the work of Christ, since only
through Him is there salvation (Acts
4:12); salvation that He himself wishes to offer
to all, without
exception.
Let the Spirit of God guide us on his ways, and make us faithful and courageous witnesses of the gospel of Christ. Amen.
